Deputy PM Le Van Thanh heads National Steering Committee on IUU Fishing Prevention
VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has been assigned to lead the National Steering Committee on Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing Prevention and Control, according to a decision signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The committee, set up in May 2019 and previously headed by former Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, is responsible for assisting the Government leader in dealing with important and inter-sectoral issues related to IUU fishing.
It is also responsible for urging ministries, sectors and localities to step up IUU fishing prevention to meet international practices and agreements which Viet Nam has signed.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is the standing body of the Committee entrusted with the duty of ensuring the Committee’s operation and supervising the implementation of IUU fishing prevention of other ministries, sectors and localities, and submitting reports on the results to the committee’s Head and the PM./.
