Deputy PM, FM Bui Thanh Son holds talks with Thai FM

Maris made the affirmation during his talks with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Ha Noi on February 24.

Bui welcomed Maris’ first official visit to Viet Nam and appreciated Thai Government’s support for the official formation of Viet Nam Town in Thailand’s Udon Thani province and for another town to be established in Nakhon Phanom province.

Bui suggested both sides continue cooperation in preserving and promoting the values of President Ho Chi Minh relics and Vietnamese pagodas in Thailand; actively implement Thai and Vietnamese languages in each country.

Both sides expressed their pleasure to witness the substantial growth in the relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect, trust and benefits. Building on such a foundation, the two sides agreed to coordinate closely to effectively promote bilateral cooperation in a bid to lift the relationship to a new height.

Both sides agreed to step up delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and strengthen cooperation between the two foreign ministries.

The two sides voiced support for enhancing defense and security cooperation, particularly in combating transnational and cyber crimes, reaffirming their commitment not to allow any individual or organization to use one country’s territory against the other.

Both sides agreed to double efforts to soon achieve the trade goal of US$25 billion through facilitating trade exchange, expanding market access, and strengthening cooperation in new fronts such as digital economy, e-commerce and green energy.

The two sides underlined the need to coordinate in effectively realizing the three-connection strategy, increase the frequency of flights between the two countries, and mull over measures to strengthen tourism cooperation.

Both sides agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral and regional forums, work with other ASEAN Member States to consolidate solidarity and unity, and promote ASEAN’s centrality.

The two sides also pledged to prioritize subregional cooperation, manage and use the Mekong river water resources in a sustainable manner.

The sides underscored the importance of maintaining peace, stability, safety and security of aviation and navigation in the East Sea on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea./.
