Consumer protection rights ensured

VGP – The Government has issued Decree 19/2012/NĐ-CP detailing punishments on unapproved use of consumers’ personal infomation to protect consumers’ rights.

The Decree will come into force on May 1, 2012, stipulating different levels of penalty ranging from VND 10 million to VND 70 million for violators.

The heaviest level of fine will be applied to organizations and individuals violating regulations of standadizations, measurement and quality of products and services as stipulated in Decree 54/2009/NĐ-CP, dated June 5, 2009.

The Decree regulates that behaviors using customer information or revealing customer information for the third side without their approval will be imposed a penalty of VND 10-20 million.

Advertisement behaviors which deliberately trick or cause misunderstanding for customers will be fined VND 20-30 million./.
