The project has a total investment of VND 4 trillion (nearly US$ 173.7 million) in the first investment phase.

Financed by private conglomerate Vingroup, the factory is designed to yearly produce about 100,000 lithium batteries for VinFast’s electric cars and buses.

In the second phase, the factory will expand production to manufacture battery cells and upgrade capacity to one million battery packs per year.

This is the first and the modernist car battery manufacturing factory in Viet Nam with high degree of automation rate of above 80 percent

It is expected to help establish a clean energy ecosystem, contributing to the localization of VinFast's supply and will recruit thousands of domestic and foreign workers.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, President Nguyen praised the group’s strategy shift, from the field of real estate investment and trading to hi-tech and services industries with high-tech products including automobiles, smart phones, and car battery packs.

Actively capturing and developing battery technology play a key part for VinFast to quickly materialize its strategic goal of becoming a global smart electric vehicle company.

Battery production would ensure the supply of diverse and suitable batteries for each line of VinFast electric vehicles while better meeting the battery needs of the domestic and international electric vehicle market, contributing to the global electric vehicle revolution, he added.

VinFast, established in 2017 as part of Vingroup Jsc, the largest conglomerate in Viet Nam.

Vinfast is now the only carmaker in Viet Nam producing and assembling electric vehicles. It started taking pre-orders for its first electric vehicle (EV) model VF e34 in March.

The Vietnamese automaker planned to launch three new electric car models from 2023, including VF e32, VF e33 and VF e34P, corresponding to segments A, B and C.

With an ambition to reach out to the world, VinFast has established branches in the US, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, and France. Its main product in the future will be electric cars./.
