The project has total investment capital of over US$235 million, including over US$ 187 million of ADB loan, nearly US$ 4.5 million of Australia’s non-refundable aid, and more than US$ 43 million responding capital of the Vietnamese Government.
The project involves improvement and upgrading of two road stretches totaling 198 km that connect several towns and districts in the provinces of Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Yen Bai to the Noi Bai Lao Cai Expressway.
Addressing the event, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister stressed that infrastructure plays an important role in spurring socio-economic development and competitiveness of each region and locality, particularly northern mountainous provinces.
The routes will also shorten travel time between Lai Chau, Lao Cao, Yen Bai to Ha Noi and accommodate the expected traffic growth due to the current economic development of the region.
He highly spoke of the Ministry of Transport, the local leaders of Lai Chau, Lao Cai, and Yen Bai, the Project Management Board No. 2, technicians, contractors, consultants for their efforts to overcome difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and kick off the project.
Pham took the occasion to extend thanks to the Asian Development Bank and the Australian Government for the credit support./.
