This is part of Government's plan to build primary-juninor boarding schools in all land border communes across the country between 2025-2027 period.
Funding (nearly VND20 trillion) for the construction of these schools shall be covered by the Government.
The plan targets to enhance children' access to education in the border areas, contributing to social welfare, socio-economic development, and national defence and security in these regions.
Under the plan, 248 schools will be built or upgraded nationwide, with 100 scheduled to start construction in 2025.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, on behalf of the Government, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh described the plan as a major strategic policy reflecting the Party and State's strong commitment to education and training in border, remote, and ethnic minority areas.
"These schools rising along the border are not merely educational facilities but 'fortresses of knowledge,' symbolizing the hopes and aspirations of students, parents, and ethnic communities," he said.
The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Education and Training and local authorities to accelerate progress with the highest determination while ensuring construction quality. He also called for continued comprehensive support for education in border regions—not only through infrastructure investment, but also through favorable policies for students and teachers, cultural development, and the creation of bright, green, clean, and happy learning environments.
Viet Nam currently has 956 schools in 248 mainland border communes, including around 22 ethnic boarding schools and 160 ethnic semi-boarding schools. These institutions play a vital role in providing general education to children in remote border areas, especially those from ethnic minority groups.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said the ministry has coordinated with 22 border provinces and cities to assess local needs, select sites, and prepare construction plans.
