Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang on March 28 provided further information about citizen protection measures for Doan Thi Huong and the upcoming trial on April 1.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and functional agencies under the MoFA has always kept contact with the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia has made three consular visits for Doan Thi Huong since March 1, 2019 to encourage and help stabilize her psychology for the upcoming trial.

The Embassy has carried out necessary procedures to pay a consular visit for Doan Thi Huong before the trial on April 1, said Ms. Hang.

*Regarding the recent conclusion of a federal jury in San Francisco that exposure to Monsanto Co.'s Roundup herbicide was a substantial factor in causing cancer, Ms. Hang said that this is a proof manifesting that herbicide causes direct harms on human bodies.

As a nation suffering from severe consequences of the war, including long-term and serious impacts of the Agent Orange / dioxin, Viet Nam demands companies providing herbicide for the US army in the war hold responsible for supporting and overcoming consequences caused by the Agent Orange /dioxin on Viet Nam’s people and environment.

Viet Nam welcomes the US Congress and Government for their support to address consequences of the war in Viet Nam, which have been widely appraised by their people.

We hope that these efforts will be continued in the time ahead with the participation of these companies, including Monsanto, she said.

Earlier on March 19, a federal jury in San Francisco ruled that exposure to Monsanto Co.'s Roundup herbicide was a substantial factor in causing the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of a Sonoma County man.
