Specifically, China imported 50,369 tons of peppercorn, or eight-fold increase against the same period from last year.
Experts attributed the sudden rise in Chinese import volume to post-Covid market reopening as the neighboring country reduced peppercorn purchases during the 2021-2022 period.
In the reviewed period, Viet Nam shipped 152,986 tons of peppercorn of all types worth US$485.9 million. Among them, export value of black and white peppercorns reached US$417.9 million and US$68.0 million respectively.
The U.S. was the second largest consumer of Vietnamese peppercorn with the import volume of 25,894 tons, a year-on-year drop of 14 percent, followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), India, and Germany.
In 2022, Viet Nam exported more than 226,000 tons of peppercorn earning nearly US$963 million, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade./.
