Child injury prevention program approved

The program aims to control and mitigate child accidents and injuries of all kinds, particularly drowning and vehicle crashes, with a view of ensuring children’s lives and health and the happiness of families and society. 

By 2030, the ratio of child accidents and injuries will be reduced to 500 per 100,000 children while the rate of child fatality caused by accidents will be around five per 100,000 children.

The child fatality and injury rate caused by traffic accidents is expected to decrease by 5-10 percent annually. 

The Government targets to raise the number of schools meeting safety standard to 15,000 within the next decade. 

All medical workers at schools will know how to provide first aid treatment to children suffering from accidents and injuries while all of localities nationwide shall have to collect information and data on child accidents and injuries. 

Viet Nam was the first country in Asia and the second country in the world to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in 1990. 

Over the past three decades, Viet Nam’s strong political commitment and leadership on child rights has led to improvements in the lives of millions of children in the country, lifting millions out of poverty, providing access to quality education and healthcare, and with child protection embedded into the Child Law.

Earlier in June, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh approved a program to protect and support children to interact in the cyber environment in a healthy and creative manner in the 2021-2025 period.
