Nguyen Xuan Thang, a member of the 13th Politburo and Chairman of the Council for the 2021–2026 term, has been appointed as Chairman.
Doan Minh Huan, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) is the permanent Vice Chairman.
Other Vice Chairmen include Le Van Loi, member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences and Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the HCMA, who is also the General Secretary of the Council.
The Council also consists of 34 members.
The Central Theoretical Council serves as an advisory body assisting the HCMA in providing strategic policy consultation to the Party Central Committee, particularly the Politburo and the Secretariat, on political and theoretical issues.
Its work provides a theoretical basis for shaping, refining and developing the Party's policies and guidelines, as well as advising on national-level research programs and projects related to political theory that directly support the Party's leadership activities.
The Council is also tasked with carrying out a number of scientific research programs and projects assigned by the Politburo and the Secretariat through the HCMA.
In addition, it assists the HCMA in researching and developing theoretical arguments to counter views that contradict the Party's policies and guidelines, while strengthening exchanges and cooperation in theoretical research with institutions affiliated with communist and ruling parties around the world./.
