Cai Mep-Thi Vai Int’l Port inaugurated

The deep-sea port is expected to promote the economic development of the country, especially in the southern region.

It is seen as the gateway for import and export cargo to industrial zones in the south.

The project is also aimed at speeding up the relocation of ports located in inner Ho Chi Minh City, establishing direct trade routes from Viet Nam to other countries and reducing transit time and cost.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai highly spoke of efforts of JICA, sponsors and related agencies in building the port.

The Cai Mep-Thi Vai International Port is built on an 76-ha area, with two terminals for 80.000DWT container vessels (700,000 TEUs / year) and two docks for ships with load of 50,000 DWT and above (2 million tons of cargo / year).

After completion, the international port can receive 100,000 DWT vessels as expected. The total investment capital of this large-scale port project is over VND12,891 billion.
