Viet Nam and Bulgaria established diplomatic relations on February 8, 1950.
In August 1957, President Ho Chi Minh, the founder of modern Viet Nam, visited Bulgaria, laying foundation for the bonds between the two countries.
Both countries are now signatories of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the and the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
The two sides have signed a number of bilateral cooperation agreements and programs in such areas like trade, education, defense, labor, and culture-tourism./.
