Borussia Dortmund to face Viet Nam national team in friendly

The match which will be held at the My Dinh National Stadium at 7pm will be broadcast live globally, according to organisers at a press conference on October 26.

It is not only to serve local football fans but also BVB's international supporters around the world.

"We as BVB are excited to bring our first team to Ha Noi. Viet Nam is highly important for Borussia Dortmund in Asia. The passion and love for the game is deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture and we can't wait to bring for the first time in history our professional team to our fans and supporters in the country," said Julia Farr, senior manager international and new business, sportive co-coordinator at Borussia Dortmund.

Farr added that with the support of Next Media, Viet Nam Football Federation and the German Football League and our partners, BVB were confident to deliver a unique experience in Viet Nam for local fans.

BVB is currently No 5 in the Bundesliga ranking with 19 points after 11 matches.

The club have won eight league championships, five DFB-Pokals, one UEFA Champions League, one Intercontinental Cup, and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

On the other side, the match is considered a test for Việt Nam ahead of their AFF Cup title defending campaign in December.

Do Thanh Tung, deputy general director of Next Media, said the match was expected to help the Vietnamese national team to improve their expertise, whilst local football lovers would also have the opportunity to witness world class footballers play in Viet Nam.

VFF General Secretary Le Hoai Anh welcomed the team and said the friendly was one of activities resulted from cooperation between Next Media, VFF and BVB.

"VFF is pleased to welcome Borussia Dortmund – one of the elite representatives of Bundesliga to Viet Nam to compete in a friendly with the national team. This tour confirms close relationship and enhanced the strategic partnership between three sides," said Anh.

"VFF hopes that this event will become a great festival for all the fans of the Borussia Dortmund club in particular and the Bundesliga in general," said Anh who added that the friendly will help Viet Nam football widely known and the country would become an attractive destination for other famous clubs in the future.

Tickets for the match have been available online since October 26. Supporters can buy through VinID application with the price ranging from VND800,000 to VND1.6 million (US$32-64).

Last month, BVB took part in the "True Love -- To the Future" campaign, which was organised in HCM City.

True Love included different activities, including a friendly match between All Stars Việt Nam and BVB's Legends to support orphans and children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

BVB will be the first European club to visit Viet Nam in the last eight years.

Previously, Premier League side Manchester City landed Ha Noi in 2015.
