Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Roger Donovou made the statement during his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy PM, FM Phạm Gia Khiêm on August 15 in Hà Nội.
He revealed that, during his three-day working visit to Việt Nam, his delegation and Việt Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development had talks on agreements on agricultural partnership and the dispatch of Vietnamese experts to assist Benin develop agriculture.
Accordingly, the two sides agreed on a bilateral treaty to implement of the planning schemes for the Niger and Oueme valleys in the Western African country. In early 2009, Việt Nam plans to send 14 experts and 6 technicians to Benin for two years to help design agricultural and irrigation planning schemes, process agricultural products, grow rice, maize and other crops in the above valleys.
Benin also asked Việt Nam to supply some varieties of high-yield rice such as DT5, DT6, XI 23, SH63, HYT 100.
The two sides agreed to speed up exchanges of agricultural experience and techniques. Việt Nam also pledged to help train young Beninese agricultural engineers.
Deputy PM, FM Phạm Gia Khiêm confirmed that Việt Nam is willing to share its experience of agricultural development with African friends, including Benin, through its national action program on boosting cooperation with Africa, stage 2004-2010.
The Deputy PM, FM also proposed that the two sides should early sign an agreement on agriculture cooperation.
