ASEAN plus 3 consolidate cooperation in rural development and poverty eradication

VGP – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Đức Phát revealed that AMRDPE 6 put forth solutions for some common issues of the region in the fields of rural development and poverty reduction, including the enhancement of cooperation between ASEAN and three partners – China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

Minister Phát made the statement at a joint press conference today after the 6th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers for Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (AMRDPE 6) was concluded.

He said that other countries highly spoke of Việt Nam’s role and its Government’s priority policies on rural development and poverty eradication (RDPE).

According to Mr. Phát, the Government has given priority to agriculture, rural areas and poverty reduction through upgrading irrigation and transport works in the countryside as well as assisting farmers, medium and small enterprises, and craft villages.

The Agriculture Minister informed that, at the Meeting, Ministers advocated a series of initiatives and programs to facilitate RDPE work.

The Meeting also issued a joint statement and reached consensus in organizing the 4th ASEAN 3 High-ranking Seminar on RDPE on September 28-30 in Hà Nội and the 2nd ASEAN 3 Human Security Conference on Women and RDPE in Japan.
