ASEAN founding anniversary marked in Indonesia

VGP – The Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on August 10 marked the 48th founding anniversary of the bloc in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The event drew the attendance of ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla, FM Retno Marsudi, Ambassadors and chief of delegations of the ASEAN member states in Indonesia.

The ASEAN Secretary-General reviewed the bloc’s path of formulation and development.

He emphasized that “After 48 years of founding and development, we will fulfill our dream about the ASEAN community where people connect with each other in friendship, cooperation, peace, freedom and prosperity”.

With the establishment of the ASEAN Community this year, ASEAN will bring in numerous opportunities and benefits for all member states when barries will be removed, national systems will be smoothly harmonized, and regional and global integration will be strengthened deeply, the Secretary-General said.

Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla affirmed that ASEAN is maturing..

ASEAN has contributed to the dynamic economic growth of its member states, he added.

On this occasion, the ASEAN Secretariat officially issued a set of stamps and a seal mutually used by the ASEAN member states to welcome the birth of the ASEAN Community by the year-end./.
