Vice State President holds talks with Indian counterpart

VGP – Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh held talks with her Indian counterpart Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday as part of her three-day official visit to India.

With historical roots in the common struggle for national liberation, Viet Nam and India share traditionally close and cordial bilateral relations.

The two leaders affirmed that both countries attach great importance to the long-lasting traditional friendship, expressing their pleasure at the growth of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

The duo also affirmed that the political trust between the two countries has been consolidated through regular exchange of high-level visits.

They agreed to soon build statue of President Ho Chi Minh in New Delhi and statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Ho Chi Minh City as both of them are regarded as “Father of the Nation” in Viet Nam and India respectively.

The pair discussed measures to further step up cooperation between Viet Nam and India, especially in such fields like defense-security, economy, trade, investment, science and technology, and people-to-people exchange.

Both sides agreed to realize the two-way trade goal of US$15 billion this year and strengthen coordination at regional and international forums.

The two sides also pledged to coordinate in accelerating peace and stability in the East Sea on the basis of respecting international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The two countries established strategic partnership in 2007 and elevated the ties to comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016.

At present, India is among top 10 trading partners of Viet Nam while the latter is the 4th largest trading partner of India among ASEAN after Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

Viet Nam is the 8th largest destination of India’s exports globally and the 2nd largest export destination for India after Singapore in the ASEAN region./.
