School reopening further delayed as 38 pupils isolated in Vinh Phuc

VGP – The department of education and training in the northern province of Vinh Phuc has proposed delaying school re-opening for one more week (until February 23) due to novel Coronavirus epidemic (or Covid-19).

February 12, 2020 4:33 PM GMT+7

Currently, 38 pupils with symptoms like fever, cough and shortness of breath in the locality have been isolated in the province which has been hit hardest since the Wuhan Covid-19 epidemic outbreak.

At communes with confirmed Covid-19 patients such as Son Loi, Thien Ke, Gia Khanh, Minh Quang and Hop Hoa, schools have planned to join hands with local authorities and health agencies to isolate and keep a close eye on pupils and teachers getting access to Covid-19 patients.

On February 11, the Ministry of Health confirmed the 15th Covid-19 infection case in Viet Nam.

The latest case, a three-month-old baby, is the 10th Covid-19 patient confirmed so far in Vinh Phuc alone.

The baby is currently in quarantine with her mother at a general clinic in Binh Xuyen Distict. Both are in a stable condition.

Among confirmed nCoV patients in Viet Nam, six have fully recovered and been discharged from the hospital as of Monday.

Coronavirus disease named Covid-19

The World Health Organization says the official name for the disease caused by the new coronavirus is Covid-19.

"We now have a name for the disease and it's Covid-19," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters in Geneva on February 11.

The new name is taken from the words "corona", "virus" and "disease", with 2019 representing the year that it emerged (the outbreak was reported to the WHO on 31 December).

The death toll from the virus reached 1,112 while more than 43,000 people have been infected all over the world./.
