A hand-over ceremony for the gifts took place on August 3 at the National Institute Of Hygiene And Epidemiology (NIHE), attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British Embassy in Viet Nam, NIHE, Oxford University Clinical Research Unit - OUCRU and AstraZeneca Viet Nam.

The vaccines will be distributed to those in most need across the country.

Having joined and witnessed the signing of the MoU on the donation in his trip to Viet Nam in late July, UK Minister of State for Asia Nigel Adams said that the UK stands with Viet Nam in this challenging period of fighting new waves of COVID-19.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health thanked the British Government for donating the amount of vaccine doses for Viet Nam, which is meaningful and valuable for the country in its COVID-19 fight.

Viet Nam launched the national COVID-19 vaccination program on July 10 with a goal to acquire 150 million doses for around 75 million people, or 70 percent of the country’s population.

As of late August 2, the country administered 6,959,197 vaccine doses, with 712,864 people fully vaccinated./.
