Banks urged to disinfect cash to curb COVID-19 spreading
VGP – Vietnamese credit institutions and and foreign banks’ branches have been ordered to disinfect cash and may store sterilized cash for a certain period of time before returning to the market.

The order was made by the State Bank of Viet Nam in a bid to curb novel coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading after 28 new infection cases have been reported in Viet Nam since last Friday.
The central bank also required credit organizations to disinfect and sterilize at cash transaction areas, stores and ATMs.
Credit organizations and foreign banks’ branches shall have to equip face mask, gloves, hand sanitizer and labor protection gear for the tellers who are in direct contact with cash at transaction offices.
The central bank also asked credit organizations and foreign banks’ branches to promote online banking services in order to reduce face-to-face transactions.
Ealier, the World Health Organization (WHO) had advised people to wash their hands and stop using cash if possible as the paper bills may help spread coronavirus./.
